Kirtipur (Kirti means”Glory and Pur mean “City”): is an ancient city, about 8 km south-west of the city of Kathmandu city and situated on a rocky hill. It was earlier a part of Patan (Lalitpur) till it was annexed into Kathmandu by Prithvi Narayan Shah in 1767. Visitors visit this place to see the beauty of nature, Newari culture and Temples. Kirtipur is also the starting point for day hiking to nearby hills like Champa Devi from where you can get beautiful view of the Himalayas on a clear day. The major attractions are: Bagh Bhairab temple (Tiger Temple). Uma Maheshwar temple, Chilancho Stupa (16 century) and local traditional Market.
Chobhar: is on the way to Kirtipur and famous of its gorge. This place is also known for the nearby Chobhar Gorge where there are the Chobhar caves. All the waters of the Valley drain though it. The god Manjushree cut the gorge to drain out Kathmandu Valley which was then a lake. Here visitors can visit Jal Binayak Temple and Adinath Lokeshwar, that is sacred to both Buddhists and Hindus.
